Can Wix AI Build My Whole Website? (2026)

This isn't a post about AI ruining websites. We build Wix sites every day, and we use AI in our own studio. Our AI Content Lab makes custom visuals for client projects, including the product photography on e-commerce builds. Wix's AI tools are the best they've ever been, and we often point people toward them for soultions.

But "can it build my website" and "should it build my whole website" are two different questions. Ten years in, with 494 completed projects on our Wix Marketplace profile, we've watched a lot of AI drafts go live. Some of them were finished. Some of them cost their owners money for a year before anyone noticed. Here's what separates the two.

What can Wix AI actually do in 2026?

It can build the whole site. You describe your business in a chat, and Wix generates layout, copy, images, and business tools, which you then refine either by talking to Aria, the built-in AI agent, or by dragging things around yourself. The builder doing that work is Wix Harmony, which launched January 21, 2026 and is included in every Wix plan, even the free one.

That last part is the bit people miss. Wix's own positioning on the AI website builder page is hybrid rather than hands-off: "Customize anything by hand or with Aria." You are never stuck with what the AI made. Hosting, SSL, and mobile layouts come along for the ride, on infrastructure Wix rates at 99.99% uptime.

Harmony does have holes worth knowing about before you commit. As of this writing, Wix's own documentation lists the CMS, Multilingual, Donations, Hotels, Music, and Referral Programs apps as not yet supported in Harmony, along with accordions, tabs, audio players, hover-state customization, glass effects, and text masks. There's also no migration path: an existing Wix Editor site cannot be converted to Harmony or vice versa. We went through the full list, gap by gap, in our Harmony breakdown.

And "Wix AI" now means several different products, which is most of why the question gets confusing:

Only the first two touch your actual pages. Symphony, which Wix launched in August as a standalone platform, works on the business behind the site (marketing, follow-up, operations) and doesn't design anything.

What does Wix AI do well?

Speed, infrastructure, and first drafts, and it does all three better than most people expect. One 2026 review had a publishable site in under 30 minutes, with hosting, SSL, mobile optimization, and working contact forms out of the box. No plugins to configure, no certificates to renew, nothing to patch on a Tuesday night.

The drafts themselves are real starting points. The AI picks a sensible page structure for your industry, writes copy that's grammatical and on-topic, and pairs it with a coherent visual theme. If you've ever stared at an empty template wondering what belongs on a homepage (we've all been there, designers included), that alone earns its place. And on the generation side it costs nothing, since Harmony sits on the free plan alongside the paid ones.

This matters most for the businesses that kept putting a website off. Around 73% of US small businesses had a website in 2023, and 26% of the holdouts blamed cost. Wix AI takes that excuse off the table. For a massage therapist, a food truck, or a local nonprofit whose site needs to exist, look decent, show hours, and take inquiries, the AI output plus an afternoon of your own edits can be the finished product. We'd rather you launch this week than save for a year.

Where does Wix AI still need a human?

In four places, and they're the ones that decide whether the site makes money: copy, differentiation, conversion, and anything custom. None of these are AI failures. They're the parts of the job that require knowing your business rather than businesses in general.

Copy and imagery. A 2026 review of the builder found the generated "copy is generic, images are stock," with personalization coming mostly from your color choices. The words are fine. They're just not very personlized to you or your business words. Your About page shouldn't read like it could belong to three of your competitors.

Differentiation. AI builders draw on the same patterns for everybody, so sites in the same industry start to rhyme. That costs you, given that 75% of people judge a company's credibility by its website design (Stanford research) and visitors form an opinion in roughly 0.05 seconds.

Conversion strategy. The AI doesn't know your margins, your best-selling service, or which testimonial closes deals. In a GoodFirms survey of small-business web design, missing calls to action ranked among the most common mistakes, and where the CTA goes is exactly the call a generated draft can't make for you.

Complex commerce and custom features. The same review put a serious store at a realistic $70 to $150 a month all in once abandoned-cart recovery, wishlists, and loyalty apps are added, and flagged page speed as a weak point against dedicated platforms. Speed matters more than it sounds: 53% of mobile visitors leave a page that takes more than 3 seconds (Google). Anything truly custom (dashboards, members areas, verification systems) still means Velo code or Base44, directed by someone who knows what to ask for. Harmony's missing CMS matters here too, since content collections are how most growing sites stay manageable. If that's your situation, the Editor versus Studio question is the one to answer first.

Can an AI-built site show up in ChatGPT and Google?

It can, and this is the part of the job AI hasn't taken over at all. Wix handles the technical groundwork (server-rendered pages, structured data toggles, a working sitemap), so an AI-built site starts from a reasonable place. What it can't do is decide what you want to be found for. With roughly 30% of US keywords now triggering Google AI Overviews and 66% of 18-to-24-year-olds using ChatGPT to find information, that decision is worth making on purpose.

Two things are worth doing whether a human or an agent built your pages. So should you use Wix AI, or hire someone?

Both are right answers for different people, and there's a third path. This is the framework we walk prospective clients through, including the ones we cheerfully tell not to hire us.

Use Wix AI on its own if the site is straightforward (a portfolio, a local service page, an event page), your budget is near zero, and you need it live this week. Launch now, upgrade when the site starts paying for itself.

Bring in a pro from the start if the site is the business: serious e-commerce, custom functionality, a crowded market where blending in costs you customers, or a rebrand where the details carry the value. Q: Will an AI-built site rank on Google?

Q: Can I convert my existing Wix site to Harmony?

A: Not right now. Wix's help documentation is clear that existing Wix Editor sites can't be migrated to Harmony. If you already have a site you like, improving it in place is the practical route, and the Editor and Studio both remain fully supported.
