How to Make Your Wix Site Readable by AI Agents (NLWeb)

A customer's AI assistant can now ask your website a question and get a real answer back. Not a paraphrase of your homepage: an actual structured response, pulled live from your products, services, and content. That's what NLWeb does, and since March 2026 it's been a one-click setting inside the Wix dashboard, thanks to a collaboration between Wix and Microsoft.

Most site owners haven't heard of it. Fewer have turned it on. We switch it on for clients as part of our SEO packages, and right now it's the cheapest AI-visibility win on the platform: five minutes, no code, no developer. Below is what NLWeb is, what flipping the switch does, the exact steps, and where it sits in the bigger job of getting your business found in AI searches.


What is NLWeb, and what's the "agentic web"?


NLWeb is an open-source framework from Microsoft that turns a website from a set of pages into something people and AI agents can query directly, in natural language. Microsoft Technical Fellow R.V. Guha, who also created Schema.org, describes the goal this way: "NLWeb is about democratizing AI with open protocols that let any site offer a conversational endpoint for people and agents."


The "agentic web" is the shift underneath it. More and more, the visitor arriving at your site is an AI assistant working on behalf of a person: checking whether you have an item in stock, what your service costs, whether you're open Tuesday. Wix's launch example makes it concrete. A query like "find a bright pink prom dress under $200" returns matching inventory straight from a Wix store, with no browsing at all.


Wix's integration matters because of what it skips. Implementing NLWeb normally takes developer work. On Wix, the platform already maintains your structured data (the Schema.org markup, product feeds, and RSS it generates for your site), so the integration exposes that existing structure through NLWeb's ASK protocol. One toggle. Wix calls the result "agentic-optimized," which is a mouthful, but the meaning is simple: your site can answer questions asked by AI searches from potential customers.


It also fits a pattern we wrote about when Symphony by Wix launched in August. Symphony aims its agents at the work inside your business. NLWeb points the other way, making your site legible to the agents your customers send. Two products with the same dependency: the quality of your structured data.


What does enabling NLWeb actually do (and not do)?


Enabling NLWeb makes your site's public, structured content queryable through a standard protocol that AI systems can use. Keep in mind these three facts from Wix's own documentation:


It doesn't touch your Google rankings. NLWeb operates independently from Google and Bing indexing. Turning it on won't lift your SEO, and it won't hurt it either. Anyone selling NLWeb setup as a ranking service is selling you something else.


It only exposes what's already public and structured. NLWeb reads your Schema.org markup, product feeds, and RSS. Private content stays private, and content without structure isn't part of the conversation. Structured data keeps turning out to be the foundation AI search stands on, which is why it takes up so much room in our guide to showing up in ChatGPT and AI Overviews.


Answers reflect your site in real time. Update a price or a product, and agent queries see the change. There's no waiting on a search engine's re-crawl cycle for the agent-facing layer.


One operational detail to know before you install: you can toggle the ASK protocol off whenever you like, but per Wix's documentation you can't fully disconnect the integration once it's in. Disabling ASK is the off switch. We'd still highly suggest you turn it on. If you've blocked AI crawlers in your robots.txt, that blocking can also stop NLWeb from working, so the two settings need to agree with each other.


How do you enable NLWeb on a Wix site?


The whole process is a few clicks, per Wix's help documentation:


  1. Check your eligibility. You need an upgraded (premium) site with a connected domain, and NLWeb supports your site's primary language only, so multilingual sites should plan around that. (At the March 2026 launch, availability started in English-language markets with global expansion to follow. Wix's help article no longer lists that restriction, so if you're outside those markets, open the panel and look.)

  2. Open SEO & GEO in your site's dashboard. That Wix renamed this section "SEO & GEO" is its own small announcement about where search is heading.

  3. Scroll to Tools and settings, and select NLWeb.

  4. Click Install NLWeb. Indexing takes a few minutes, depending on the size of your site.

  5. Confirm the ASK protocol toggle is on. That's the switch that lets AI agents query your structured content, and you can turn it off at any time.

What should you check before you flip the switch?


Installing takes five minutes. Making the install worth something takes a little longer, because NLWeb can only serve what your site already describes clearly. Wix's own NLWeb optimization guide puts it plainly: "The more complete and accurate your structured data, the more NLWeb has to work with." Four things we check on client sites first.


Product and service data. Prices, availability, descriptions, and options are what agent queries return. Thin or stale product data produces thin or stale answers, and there's no browsing step where a human might notice the gap.


Business basics. Hours, location, contact details, service areas. These are the questions assistants field most often, and they're the easiest ones to leave half-filled.


FAQ content. Wix's guide singles this out, because FAQ pairs map almost exactly onto how people phrase questions to an AI. Wix auto-generates structured data for blogs, products, events, portfolios, and FAQs, and for blog posts you can switch on AI-generated structured data in your SEO settings with one toggle.


Your robots.txt. If you (or a previous developer) blocked AI crawlers, unblock them before you wonder why nothing is happening.


Freshness carries more weight here than in classic search. NLWeb serves answers directly instead of sending someone off to browse, so outdated content has immediate consequences: an agent will quote last year's price with total confidence. Wix's guidance is to remove or de-index obsolete content on a regular schedule, which is good hygiene either way.


Should you turn NLWeb on?


If you're eligible, we think yes. The cost is minutes, the downside is small, and the direction of travel is not subtle. AI assistants already send at least some traffic to roughly seven in ten websites, and that share has been climbing fast. Making your site easy for agents to query is the infrastructure version of the same bet.

Two calibrations, so nobody oversells this to you. First, NLWeb adoption across the web is early, and protocols only pay off as the ecosystem adopts them. You're wiring the building ahead of the neighborhood, which is fine as long as you know that's what you're doing. Second, NLWeb is one layer of AI visibility. The evidence on what gets businesses cited and recommended by AI still points overwhelmingly at content and reputation: answer-first pages, linked evidence, freshness, and mentions on sites you don't own, since 96% of AI citations come from third-party sources. Spend five minutes on NLWeb, then spend the rest of your effort where the citations come from.

Q: Is NLWeb the same as llms.txt?


A: No. llms.txt is a plain-text file suggesting content for AI systems to read, and studies so far show no correlation between llms.txt and citation frequency. NLWeb is an active query protocol backed by Microsoft that serves structured answers from your live data. Of the two, NLWeb is the one with infrastructure behind it.


The five-minute upgrade most Wix sites haven't made


The web is growing a second audience: agents shopping, checking, and booking for the humans they work for. Wix has turned joining it into a settings toggle. Turn it on, make sure your structured data is worth querying, and get back to the content and reputation work that earns the citations.
